What is Sin?

June 23, 2010 by Rev

Dear Reverend, I must have the wrong idea on what is sin is. I do understand that sin’s definition is to deny, disobey or have nonbelief towards God, but I must be looking at it from a material view and not a spiritual one. The mind and the emotions are invisible therefore spiritual. When man sins, he’s at a spiritual level and believes Satan instead of God and his spiritual nature is cut off from God? Sin must be a spiritual decision from the heart and spirit?

What you wrote concerning the definition of sin sounds quite philosophical. Plainly, here’s what the Bible says:
“Now the works of the sinful nature are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” – Galatians 5:19-21.
The Bible also says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23. God has a standard that is higher than ours and we are all sinners in His sight. However, God loves us and sent Jesus Christ to die on a cross for our sins. Anyone who repents (turns from their sinful lifestyle) and asks God for forgiveness will be saved from hell and will go to heaven.
