Failed Suicide, Lust & Video Games

January 8, 2010 by Rev

Dear Rev. If someone tries to kill them self and fails or changes their mind do they still go to hell?

People go to hell for only one reason and that is if they reject Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin. So if someone tries to kill them self and fails they still have a chance to be forgiven. God won’t hold it against them. Nevertheless, the Bible says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23.  So whether its you, me or anyone else, we all have to be forgiven. Being the best person we can won’t get us into heaven. If that was true, Jesus wouldn’t have had to die on a cross. But He did and that means He had to pay a price for our sins. All we have to do is ask Him to forgive us. The Bible says, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” – Romans 10:13.  May God help you to make that decision!

Also Rev, what is lust and sloth?

Lust is when a person wants something that is sinful and they can’t control them self. It starts in the mind, but can lead to a sinful act.  The Bible says, “every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed. Then when lust has conceived it brings forth sin” – James 1:14-15.

Sloth is laziness. However, God has much more for us to do than to be lazy.

I forgot something else. I like playing video games with guns therefore you kill people, is that a sin?

Once you’ve become a born again believer in Christ, He will show you what things are right or wrong. Keep in mind we don’t get to heaven because we don’t do certain things. We get to heaven because we have accepted Christ as our personal Savior. The Bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no-one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9. Salvation is a free gift from God. You don’t try to earn it. You just accept it and be forever grateful.
