What about Judaism? A conservative Rabbi once told me that Judaism is the only religion to be witnessed by a large number of people–600,000 people at Mount Sinai. Also, he told me that Judaism is the oldest religion by far and it survived countless wars, whereas many nations died out. It seems to me that they have the better logic; what does Christianity have to say about it? My entire family has been Protestant for as long as we can trace back, but I’m having trouble with faith, because it seems to me that Judaism has the better logic; what does Christianity have to say about Judaism’s logic?
Good question! I’m glad you’re thinking this out. Judaism laid the foundation for the knowledge of God. The sacrificial system of the Israelites was a foreshadowing of how God would redeem the world through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This is why Jesus was referred to as the “Lamb of God”. So while Judaism may be an older religion, it was foundational for Jews who would come to believe in Jesus (Yeshua). The Bible explains it this way. “So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed” – Isaiah 28:16. To the Jews, Jesus became either a “stepping stone” to God or a “stumbling block” to those who rejected Him. Paul, a Jew wrote, “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame” – Romans 9:33.
Concerning persecution, Christianity has survived countless attacks and the blood of many martyrs has been shed. However, it continues to grow all over the world as the gospel (good news) is preached. The Bible says, “Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” – Acts 4:12.
