In the Bible it says when a man and a woman have sex they will become one flesh. I would like to know at what time during sex do they become one flesh? And if a man and woman can’t have sex during their marriage when or how will they become one?
The Bible says, “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” – Genesis 2:24. The Bible also teaches when a man and a women have sex together they become one “in body” (I Corinthians 6:16). However, becoming “one” is more than just sex. In fact, it’s possible to become one in marriage without having sex at all. Sex is certainly part of becoming one, but it isn’t the only way. Couples become one emotionally, psychologically and intimately. The Bible speaks of us becoming “one” with God and Jesus Christ, yet there is no sex involved here. Jesus prayed for believers saying, “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one” – John 17:20-21. As far as when couples become one sexually, that would be during the normal act of intercourse.
