Lost Love

March 19, 2010 by Rev

I am confused as to how to move forward with my life. I was engaged to be married before my fiance decided she was no longer happy in our relationship and left me. I was devastated and still am, as I had committed myself to her and our relationship together. Now that she has gone, my life feels empty and everything including work, leisure time and my family, all seems pointless. I have often thought about turning to God. I am not sure where I would start, but I would like to lead more of a Christian life. I feel I am being punished for my sins in the past and don’t know which way to turn. I want to be a better person, but feel I have left it too late, having missed my only chance at happiness. Please let me know your thoughts.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your girlfriend. However, no person will ever be completely happy until they know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. You were created to have a relationship with God and until that happens, there will always be an empty space in your life. Jesus Christ died on the cross to bring you into this relationship. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me” – John 14:6. By putting God first in your life, everything else will fall into place. He loves you very much and has a plan for your life. It’s a popular belief that a spouse will “complete” you, but this is false. We are completed by having a relationship with God. A good marriage consists of two people who are complete in themselves and God. You said you felt like God was punishing you for the sins of your past, but God doesn’t do that. He doesn’t need to, because there are already consequences for sin. Instead, God wants us to realize we are sinners in need of His grace and forgiveness. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23. The place to start is to call on Jesus Christ to forgive your sins of the past. Then you can have a wonderful relationship with Him that’s real. Also, read the New Testament Bible and start going to church. If I can be of any other help in your faith, please let me know. God bless you.
