Is wearing a cross okay or wrong? I want to know because I was thinking about getting one.
There’s nothing wrong with wearing a cross. If you just want people to know you’re a Christian, that’s okay. However, don’t forget that people need to hear the gospel from your mouth. Jesus said, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation” – Mark 16:15.
Also, some people wear them for the wrong reasons. For example, they think there’s some power in wearing one or that they’ll be “divinely” protected. Others hope it will bring them favor from God. However, those who want favor from God or to be divinely protected must belong to God first. Many people think since they’re God’s creation they are automatically His children. However, that’s not true. To become a child of God you must turn from a life of sin and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. The Bible says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God” – John 1:12. When this happens the meaning of the cross becomes far more personal and relevant than wearing one.
