Water Baptism

January 8, 2010 by Rev

Dear Rev. After when you have accepted Jesus, how long will you have to wait until you can get baptized?

Actually, you don’t have to wait for anything! The experience of believers in the New Testament was to be baptized immediately upon conversion. Here is an example:

“Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him” – Acts 8:36-38.

As you can see, this man was baptized immediately after he believed in Jesus Christ. Usually, ministers like to be sure the person understands what they are doing before they are baptized. Baptism is a sign that you want to follow Jesus with all your heart and you should have this commitment before you are baptized. Sometimes though, it gets put off for awhile and that’s not good either. Don’t worry though, God won’t send anyone to hell because they weren’t baptized. What’s important is that we believe in Jesus Christ and since we have made him our Lord, we should want to obey Him by being baptized. God bless you!
