What’s up Rev? I have a question to ask you. Do you think nightmares are from demons or Satan trying to scare you? Or do you think nightmares are just nightmares?
Nightmares can be a horrible thing. Some can come from Satan if you open a window for him. For example, if you watch sinful movies or listen to too much music with bad lyrics. Other than that, nightmares can come from eating too much before bed or being really overtired.
For real? I asked a few other people about this and one said that no, there is nothing in the Bible saying nightmares are from demons or Satan. Like other dreams, they have no particular meaning. What do you have to say about that?
It’s true that there are no specific scriptures that speak of Satan giving bad dreams. However, Satan uses whatever he can to torment people and this is evident from the following scripture – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10. Satan can give us bad thoughts (Matthew 16:23) or physical pain and sickness (Luke 13:16) to name a few. However, keep in mind I didn’t say bad dreams are always from Satan. I said they can be from Satan or be from natural causes such as overeating before bed.
So Rev. it’s like you’re saying that there are no specific scriptures that speak of Satan giving bad dreams. But then on the other hand you said that Satan can give bad thoughts (Matthew 16:23). So do you feel like that verse in the Bible is also talking about bad dreams? I want an honest answer from you. Which one is it? Can Satan give us bad dreams or no? And if so where does it say in the Bible that Satan can give us bad dreams?
What I’m saying is that since Satan can give us bad thoughts, he can also give us bad dreams. The Bible is our authority for truth, but it doesn’t address every issue specifically. For example it doesn’t say we shouldn’t smoke cigarettes, but we know it’s wrong based on the following scripture – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” – 1 Corinthians 6:19. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and therefore we shouldn’t smoke because it’s bad for the body. This single verse of scripture is a principle that applies to many things. In the same way the following scripture applies to many things – “The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy” – John 10:10. Satan can attack us in many ways and uses many things to accomplish his purpose. Even though it doesn’t specifically say Satan can give us bad dreams he will use whatever he can to “steal” our peace. Many Christians have experienced really bad dreams and learned to recognize them as an attack from Satan. These are no ordinary dreams, they are very demonic in content. That’s how you recognize them. God isn’t interested in things like graveyards, dead bodies or pornography; but Satan is. The way to deal with them is to ask ourselves what window are we leaving open for Satan to come in? Are we living righteously or are we inviting sin into our lives? What kind of garbage are we filling our minds with? Songs with sensual lyrics? Sex filled movies? Horror movies? Instead, we have to protect our minds and guard our heart. The Bible says, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” – Philippians 4:8. Also, the Bible says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil” – Proverbs 4:23-27.
I’m sorry Rev for coming at you like that and saying to be honest. I feel like you’re always honest with me. That’s a great answer, but we are human and can’t control our dreams you feel me? God knows that in my heart I don’t wanna have a bad dream and if I do get bad dreams it is not intentional. As in like I wanted to get a bad dream do you understand what I’m saying?
