Dear Rev. I thank God for having men as yourself to help me. I have been having impure thoughts and something evil in me, but I fight it. In my mind I see myself as God’s soldier, but I am ashamed to say I feel I’m not worthy because of my sins. I know Christ forgives me, but sometimes I feel like I don’t deserve it. I ask God to have mercy on my soul because when my judgment day comes up I don’t know if I’ll be worthy to go to heaven. I just want to ask you if you can pray that God will keep the evil away from me and only God to be in me. Thank you for your time and may God bless you.
I’m sorry to hear about how unworthy you’ve been feeling. I’m not sure if you understand God’s plan of salvation, but I’d like to explain it as it pertains to your struggle. When you accept Christ as your Savior it doesn’t mean you’ll never struggle with sin again. Your sins are forgiven when you confess them to God, but it’s a daily struggle to deny the sinful nature and live for Christ. You should read Romans chapter eight concerning this. Being worthy to enter heaven isn’t based on our “measuring up”, but on what Christ did for us on the cross. He made it possible to enter heaven by faith, not works. The Bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no-one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9. Anyone who has accepted Christ as their personal Savior will not stand before God in judgment. This is reserved for those who reject Christ’s offer of salvation. A born again Christian has already accepted the “guilty” verdict for their sins and received the “pardon” that comes from Christ. Therefore it isn’t about being worthy enough to enter heaven. Instead, you are accepted because you’ve received forgiveness from God and have become a follower of Christ.
