Hello there, I have a question. It might be sound a little dumb, but some people say that Catholic people are going to hell and that you have to be a Jehovah’s Witness or a Christian to go to heaven. Is this true? Cause I go to a Catholic church every time I can and I was scared when I heard that.
Denominations don’t matter to God, it’s what a person does with Jesus Christ that matters. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ – Matthew 7:21-22. So it’s all about having a personal relationship with Jesus. Anyone can have this no matter what denomination they belong to. Unfortunately though, Jehovah’s Witnesses have a different Jesus. They say he was an archangel and not the divine Son of God. If this was the case, Jesus couldn’t have atoned for our sins as an archangel. However, He was both divine and human so that He could represent both God and man. If you are going to a Catholic church, please remember that it’s not your good deeds that will get you into heaven nor keeping the sacraments of the church. The Bible makes it clear – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no-one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9. So if you accept Jesus into your life by faith and ask Him to forgive your sins, you can be saved. What He asks of us is to turn from our sinful lifestyle and become a follower of Him. This is what it means to be a Christian – “a follower of Jesus”. When you do this, He will make Himself real to you so that you can have a personal relationship with Him.
