Dear Rev. I am in my teens and here lately I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping. I lie awake thinking of what’s going to happen to me when I die. Will I really go to heaven or just into the ground? You see this bothers me so much because I wasn’t raised to go to church and in my life I haven’t been a lot either. So I don’t know too much, but I do PRAY AND I DO BELIEVE. I just question those things I can’t see or prove and I’m scared. I’ve asked my parents and my step mom believes we came from the water and heaven is just something make-believe. Its sole purpose is to ease the thought of dying, and my dad has no opinion. Any advice?
Everyone at some point in their life needs to ask these important questions. I’m glad you’re asking them now at your age. When you get older you tend to think you know it all. Some only get serious about it when they are dying. However, God likes it when people seek for Him and don’t leave it until the end.
Let me just say that you can know where you will go when you die. God wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s why people with real faith know where they’re going after they die. Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you”. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” – John 14:1-2&6. Therefore, the way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. It is by accepting His death on the cross for your forgiveness and by having a personal relationship with Him. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in” – Revelation 3:20. This is your invitation to know Him personally!
If you want this, why not open the door to Him today? Ask Him to forgive all your sins and to make you a child of His. Thank Him for what He’s done for you on the cross. Ask Him to make Himself real to you. Finally, read the Bible and talk to Him everyday. When you have a personal relationship with Him then you will also have the assurance of going to be with Him in heaven when you die. God Bless you!
