What would you say is the best way to believe in God? My mother says he is just a myth, but I still believe in him.
The best way to believe in God is to accept His gift of salvation which is Jesus Christ. The way to do this is to ask Him to forgive you for all your sins and then live for Him. Jesus came to this earth to be born and then die on a cross for our forgiveness. We must ask Him personally to forgive us. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” – Romans 6:23. Knowing God is as easy as accepting a gift and opening it. Too many people just look at the gift (Jesus Christ), but never open it! However, what will you do with Christ? – Rev.
Thanks Rev, but once we have accepted Christ’s gift of salvation can we ever lose it? Will God ever turn his back on us even though our life at times may seem as though “we” have? And what does accepting really entail? Understanding it? Praying? What about children or mentally retarded adults who can not understand? Thanks in advance.
Once we have “accepted” Christ’s gift of salvation we can only lose it if we choose not to follow Christ anymore. But who would want to when you have a wonderful relationship with Him? He will never turn His back on us and even if we mess up, all we have to do is ask for forgiveness and keep on going. Jesus said. “He that comes to me I will in no wise cast out” – John 6:37.
“Accepting” Christ entails two things: 1. Asking Him personally to forgive you for all your past sins. 2. Turning from your life of sin and becoming a follower of Him. Once you’ve done these two things you can begin a personal relationship with Christ. He will become more real to you as you spend time with Him in prayer and reading the Bible. If you have any doubts about believing, just tell Him. Be honest, He doesn’t mind.
Regarding those who might have a limited understanding such as children or the mentally delayed, it is actually easier for them to accept Christ because of their simplicity. Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” – Matthew 18:3.
As you can see, there’s nothing to keep us from knowing God personally. We just have to humble ourselves as a child. Accepting Christ as our personal Savior is the way to knowing God and the way to heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, but by me” – John 14:6. It’s my prayer that you’ll make a commitment of your life to Him and do it today. The Bible says, “Behold, now is the accepted time, behold, now is the day of salvation” – II Corinthians 6:2. God Bless You!
