I am very confused, I miss going to church and I do enjoy it so much. I talk to God daily, but I feel because of who I am and the things I do I am a bad person pretty much in his eyes anyway. So why even bother unless I am ready to give up these things. I am in a relationship and it’s sexual. We are engaged, but not married yet. I smoke marijuana and drink occasionally. I curse and I am also bi-sexual. It’s like I’m confused where I stand in his eyes. Please help me understand or let me know if I should even go back to church and talk to him and or am I bad in his eyes anyway?
The amazing thing about God’s love is that it’s unconditional. This means that He loves you no matter what you may do. God loves you very much, but this doesn’t mean He overlooks your sin. He still hates sin. God hates the sin, but loves the sinner. So what should you do? Repentance is the way to God. You were right when you said you need to give up your sinful lifestyle. That’s what real repentance is. Being sorry isn’t enough; you must be willing to make changes with God’s help. It’s important to understand that God is Holy and we are not and in order to have a relationship with Him, we must ask Him for forgiveness and turn from our sins. This doesn’t mean we’ll be perfect or never mess up, but we must be willing to change. The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” – I John 1:9.
Jesus Christ died on the cross so that we could be forgiven. It’s on this basis that we are accepted by God. If you’re willing to admit you are a sinner and ask God for forgiveness and turn from your sins, then you can have a personal relationship with Him. It will be the best thing you’ve ever done and you’ll never regret it. You were created to know God in a personal way and there will always be an emptiness in your life until you come to know Him. Also, knowing God in a personal way is the only way to experience true happiness. It’s my prayer that you’ll give your life to Him today.
