Dear Reverend, as I understand it when God created the world everything in it was good and perfect. However, Adam sinned and became imperfect and whatever man makes is imperfect as well? It would seem to me whatever man does outside of God always fails and whatever man does with God never fails? If that is the case then all disciplines – writing, philosophy and mathematics are all flawed. Man was created to worship and serve God and when man doesn’t do this then he is a sinner? Also, is it true that when man gets saved he still has his sin nature?
It’s true that when God created the earth in the beginning everything was good and perfect. However, when man sinned he became independent of God. That doesn’t mean everything man-made is imperfect. Writing, mathematics, and philosophy (the study of wisdom) in and of themselves aren’t imperfect. For example, two plus two is four and there’s nothing imperfect about that. However, there are many writings and philosophies which deny God. As to what makes man a sinner, the Bible says, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” – Galatians 5:19-21. The good news is that forgiveness is available through Jesus Christ. He paid for our sins so that we could be forgiven and have a relationship with a Holy God. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior they experience a change in their life. The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ they are a new creation. Old things pass away and all things become new” – II Corinthians 5:17. It’s true that when a person gets saved they still have their sinful nature. However, through the power of the Holy Spirit they can live a righteous life. The Bible says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires” – Galatians 5:22-24. The bottom line is this; God created us to have a personal relationship with Him and He made this possible through Jesus Christ. Jesus summed it up in these words, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” – John 3:16-18. So even though we are sinners, God loves us and wants to have a relationship with us.
