Dear Rev. Is masturbation a sin?
Yes, masturbation is a sin because it’s not what God designed for our sexual satisfaction. Sexual intercourse between a man and a women who are married to each other is. The Bible says, “each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God” – I Thessalonians 4:4-5. Many people think that masturbation isn’t a sin, but simply a natural function of the body. However, as I said before, it isn’t what God designed for our sexual satisfaction. The truth is, it only leads to sexual addiction.
Most people want to know where in the Bible it says masturbation is a sin. However, the Bible isn’t a book that lists sins. Instead, it is a book that gives righteous principles and practices to follow. Masturbation can be a difficult habit to break, but once a person no longer wants to be controlled by it, they can, with the help of God, get control. Those who want to overcome masturbation need only to abstain and the urges become less frequent. Eventually complete control is achieved. However, it begins with the decision not to masturbate anymore.
Finally, you would be surprised what God can do for you when you give your life to Christ. The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. Old things pass away and all things become new” – II Corinthians 5:17. It’s my prayer that you’ll come to know Him in a personal way. God bless you.
