Is Wishing to Do Bad Things a Sin?

August 9, 2010 by Rev

If I am a really good girl, but I have desires of doing bad things, but I never do it (just wanting); am I going to heaven or hell? Is wishing to do bad things a sin?

I appreciate that you’re trying to be a “good” girl. However, when you wish to do bad things it reveals the sinful nature that we all have. Even if you think about doing bad things, but don’t do them doesn’t mean you don’t do other things. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23. Here’s a simple test according to the 10 Commandments. Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever lied? Have you ever used God’s name as a cuss word? Have you ever looked at someone’s body and lusted? These are only four of the 10 Commandments and if you have broken any you will be guilty. You will stand before God and hell will be your final destination. However, there is good news! Because God loves us so much, He sent Jesus Christ to die on a cross to pay for our sins. Jesus willingly suffered and died taking our punishment and making forgiveness possible. If you repent from your sins – which means to be truly sorry for your sins, and turn from a sinful lifestyle and become a follower of Jesus Christ, then you will be forgiven and go to heaven. Please don’t make the mistake of believing that your “good” will outweigh your bad. The Bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no-one can boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9. Even if you think of yourself as a good person, you have to judge yourself by God’s standards, not yours. Please seriously consider what I’ve said. My prayer for you is that you’ll make a decision to commit your life to Christ. Also, read the Bible beginning with the gospel of John. Please feel free to email anytime and check out the link below. God bless you!
