Dear Rev. Is Cussing A Sin?
The dictionary defines “cussing” as “to curse” or “curse at”. The Bible says, “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be” – James 3:9-10.
Another form of cussing involves taking the Lord’s name in vain. God said, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain” – Exodus 20:7.
So yes, cussing is a sin, but there is forgiveness for the guilty. Jesus died on the cross so that forgiveness could be given. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23. We can receive a pardon for all our sins by making it personal and asking Him to forgive us.
