Dear Sir, I would like to know the role or function of administration in the church.
The administration of the church is to be performed by deacons. This is the Biblical model. The word “deacon” in the original Greek means “to serve”. In the book of Acts, when administration was first needed, the people appointed deacons at the advice of the Apostles. They were told, “seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business” – Acts 6:3. It was the ministry of the Apostles and Pastors to give themselves to the word of God and prayer and not to neglect it. Therefore, deacons were appointed “to serve” the people whenever administration was needed. However, if a congregation is small, the Pastor may find it necessary to involve himself in some form of administration which is permissible.
The Bible also describes those who administrate in the church as being “gifted”. The Apostle Paul wrote, “And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues” – I Corinthians 12:28.
