Dear Rev. What is the book of life?
The Book of Life is a record book that is kept in heaven and lists the names of all those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Only those who have their name written in the book will go to heaven. It is described in the Bible in the book of Revelation. Here are three references:
“And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.” – Rev. 20:12
“And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” – Rev. 20:15
“Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.“ – Rev. 21:27
Notice in the last reference it’s called the Lamb’s book of life. This means the book belongs to Jesus. Jesus is the sacrificial “Lamb of God” who died on the cross to pay for the sins of the world. To get your name written there you have to ask Jesus to forgive you for all your sins and become a follower of Him. You can ask Him to do this anywhere and anytime. However, don’t wait and try to live a better life. God wants you to come today just as you are. The Bible says, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” – II Corinthians 6:2.
