Can you please help by answering this question? What is a threshing floor (exactly) and how does one prepare a threshing floor? Would it be possible to give a step by step simple answer? Also, does it have to do mainly with prayer and how we pray?
A threshing floor was used in Bible times as a place for separating the chaff from the wheat. It was a place chosen by the farmer near to his field. The farmer could use various methods to separate the chaff from the wheat. For example, he could use a pitch fork to throw the sheaves into the air and let the wind blow the chaff away. This was called “winnowing”. Another method involved oxen “treading out the grain” which would also cause the chaff to separate from the wheat. As to it’s spiritual significance, the wheat represents the spiritual part of us (the good), and the chaff represents the flesh or sinful nature (the bad). The apostle Paul wrote, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells” – Romans 7:18. As Christians, we are taught to deny the flesh, and build up the spirit. For example, Paul wrote, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” – Galatians 5:16. The threshing floor becomes symbolic of a place where we deal with our flesh or sinful nature. It is a place where the chaff gets separated from the wheat. It is here we pray and cry out to the Lord for help or where we repent and determine to get victory over the sinful nature. Wherever you choose to pray becomes your spiritual threshing floor.
