When Christ died on the cross there was some time that passed before he went to heaven. Where did he go? I heard a Pastor say he went to Hell to save those there. If this is true please tell me where I could read about this.

It’s true that Christ descended into Hell immediately after his death on the cross. He preached to the spirits in Hell, but not for the purpose of saving them. Peter wrote about it in this way, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built” – I Peter 3:18-20. It’s clear that none of those who were in Hell could have been saved as their eternal destiny had already been decided. If they had been righteous, they would have been in Paradise rather than Hell (see Luke 16:19-31). The fact that Jesus came and preached to them may have been for a final witness that He had indeed come and died on the cross as promised by God .
